"You're Hired"

That’ s music to the ears of Latoya Anderson. December 5 th she was hired by Merced County Mental Health, in the Medical Records Department.

Prior to joining the Empower Program Latoya was searching for a career that met her personality and aptitudes. Latoya knew that without formal training she would have less of a chance of success in finding the perfect job for her.

Latoya attended and received a Certificate in Medical Office Technology through Merced College. She proved competency in Medical Office Practice, Medical Office Filing, Transcription, Billing, and Medical Manager Software. Latoya also completed the Tutor-Microcomputer in Business making her computer literate in the following programs: Word 2000, Excel 2000, Access 2000, Power Point 2000, Outlook 2000, MS Publisher, and General Medical Practice.

Latoya worked 320 hours work experience for Carol Silva in the Medical Records Department. During her work experience Latoya had the opportunity to master the skills necessary to successfully secure the position of Consumer Assistant. Latoya also covered the medical receptionists ’ position. Some of the duties involved as a Consumer Assistant included filing, checking in patients, pulling charts and preparation for patient visit. During her time at Mental Health I received time and attendance from the office manager. Each bi-weekly time and attendance form showed high marks for attendance, appearance, punctuality, and performance. These remarks are a compliment to Latoya's dedication and commitment that lead her to a full time position.

Congratulations Latoya!

Update - One week later: Latoya was upgraded to a Medical Records Tech
